Favorites

Starbucks Double Chocolate Chip Frappuccino. Heaven in a cup! And don't judge-it's coffee-free.

And then there is Wendy's Chicken Apple Pecan salad. The half size fills me up. It has a yummy, tart pomegranate dressing. It will change your life.

Mike

When Mike and I were getting everything packed up to move I was looking through his boxes from Elementary School and Junior High when I came across this...

Poor guy. The only thing he has done is meet "knew" people.

It was fun going through his things. His mom had kept all the love notes between him and his little girlfriends. He was quite the Romeo. And he was involved in EVERYTHING-skiing, lacrosse, baseball, soccer, roller blading, skate boarding, wake boarding, long boarding, mountain biking, etc. etc. I honestly don't see how Linda had any free-time at all.

I love how he just picks things up and does them but if I was more competitive I'm pretty sure it would drive me insane. For example, here are some completely random things he is pretty good at: yo-yo-ing, the harmonica, knitting!, saxophone, ceramics (or anything artsy), bag pipes!, cooking, car mechanics, poetry?!? and so on and so forth. It seems there is something new everyday. Last night I got to listen to him test out the ukulele for an hour in bed.

Books and an Update

Some relatively recent finds...

Emily's Ghost by Denise Giardina. Amazing. It is a fictional novel about the life of Emily Bronte (my favorite of the sisters). Don't read if Charlotte is your favorite-it doesn't paint the best picture of her. Anyhoo, it's tragic AND romantic. Loved it.

The Help by Kathryn Stockett. Currently being made into a movie. Illustrates women at their best and  worst.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I've never seen Schindler's List (I'm a coward) but I've heard it is just as powerful if not more. Read with a box of tissues. I cried...a lot. But don't let that scare you! It's awesome, thanks Jen!

Things are wonderful here on the Big Island. The last month has flown by. Right now there is a torrential downpour outside and we are having a Harry Potter marathon in preparation for the upcoming movie. I almost don't want to go see the finale because that will mean it's all over!
Mom and I have girls camp next week so I'm mentally preparing myself for late nights, lots of giggling girls, and snipe hunts.

Back to Hawaii!

Changes, changes, changes. We are moving to Oahu in the beginning of June! Mike is going to the University of Hawaii to get his Doctorate in Architecture. As many of you know, we have been deliberating for some time but Hawaii won out over the U, ASU, UNLV, and Montana. We are pretty excited. I'm so proud of him :) and I am REALLY looking forward to being close to my family. We'll still be an island away but plan on visiting often. The Big Island will always be home. The only places I am familiar with on Oahu are the soccer fields but we will get it all figured out.

So in the next month and a half we will basically be selling everything we own. I had no idea we had so much stuff! Mike is selling his skis (that's how I knew he was serious about moving) and all his kayaks. Everything goes-cars, furniture, the whole works! How...fun.

We are sad to leave family and friends but plan on visiting as often as we can. And we welcome visitors! It won't be like staying at my parents' place (I am quite certain whatever one-bedroom bungalow we'll be living in won't have guest quarters) but you're still welcome!

Anyways, I have to get back to studying. After May 7th, I'll be done with school!

Mom

Today my mom turned 44. She thinks this is old but I certainly don't. Most of my "peers" have parents in their 50s, 60s, and 70s (so I don't think it's rude to announce her age). It is easy to remember because she is almost exactly 20 years older than me. At my age she would have had a four year-old and a two year-old. Weird.

Most of you know my mom so you know how amazing she is. EVERYONE loves her. You can't help but love her. It's impossible not to. I mean, look at how cute she is!

I hope when I have kids that they look like Grandma. Or Aunt Megan since they are one and the same.

I love it! (Notice the bangs. Very well cut.)

Senior pic. What a babe! She hates this picture but too bad. She's like an 80's supermodel.

Happy Birthday! Wish we could be there.

A Shout Out to February

I knew I would be a bad blogger. You know why? Because since I could write I have started a journal every year or two but have never written more than two consecutive entries. Basically, I have a bunch of entries that say this, "I know it has been a long time since I last wrote but this time I will be better." Lame, I know.

Anyways, I love the month of February. I am not a fan of the snow but I am a big fan of Valentine's Day. HUGE fan. I don't care if it is commercialized. I'm a romantic and I love seeing that "twitterpated" look on everyone's face. It's cute.

When I came home from work this last Valentine's Day I was tired and overloaded with sugar (I work at an elementary school). I pulled up into our driveway and immediately noticed how clean Mike's car looked. Those of you that are familiar with the Jetta probably don't even know what color it is. It's navy blue. I have a thing for clean cars and Mike knows this. Anyways to make a long story short, he had seriously detailed that dirty car inside and out. He had also gone and got a haircut and was wearing my favorite shirt (of his not mine). He then took me to Tucanos and proceeded to spoil me for the rest of the night. It was awesome. But the best part about it wasn't the gifts or the dinner.

It was that squeaky clean car and haircut.

On a side note, I got this rose at the restaurant and IT IS STILL ALIVE! It doesn't even look two days old but I got it almost three weeks ago. I told Mike it is the rose from Beauty and Beast. He said it's probably fake. It's not. I'm sure.

Sunday Nights

I lied about never blogging again.

How we spend our spare time...

And the finale which Mike calls, "The Creeper"
